Buhari to address the nation on second term

The Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Rochas Okorocha of Imo, said President Muhammadu Buhari would soon address the nation on whether he will seek re-election in 2019.

Okorocha stated this when he briefed State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting between the President and the APC governors held on Thursday night at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said the president would also address the caucus of the APC on the matter. “We discussed so many issues that affect the nation, our party and Mr President’s ambition to run for 2019 elections. “Anyhow, Mr President in his usual manner has requested that we give him time and that he will address the nation and the caucus of the party very soon. “So we should be full of expectations that Mr President will make officially known to Nigerians his intentions. “But we hope that his response will be in line with what the governors are thinking,’’ he said. According to the governor, it is the desire of the governors that the President seek re-election in view of his tremendous performances in the last two and half years. He said: “We believe that if he continues Nigeria will be better for it.’

Nigeria ready, able to host any FIFA event – Pinnick.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick has assured world football –governing body, FIFA that the country is ready, able and willing to host any major football program, on or off the field.

The NFF supremo made this known on Tuesday, at the press conference that followed immediately on the heels of the FIFA Executive Football Summit held at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

I believe that after he leaves this time, our football will soar even higher, with great possibilities of dazzling the world at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.” The Summit, which was one of 12 FIFA Executive Football Summits planned for November 2017 and March 2018 and one of the cardinal programs of President Infantino, was attended as well by CAF President Ahmad, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura, FIFA Council members Kwesi Nyantakyi of Ghana and Sonia Bien Aime from Turks and Caicos Islands, alongside presidents of 17 Member Associations of FIFA: Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, Somalia, South Sudan, Swaziland, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Turks and Caicos Islands, Denmark, FYR Macedonia, Lithuania, San Marino, Sweden and host country Nigeria. Only two other cities in Africa – Nouakchott in Mauritania and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania – are in the mix of the 12 cities worldwide hosting the FIFA Executive Football Summits. Dar es Salaam takes its turn tomorrow while the curtain will be drawn on the meetings in Lima, Peru next week.

The Secretary of INEC in Kebbi State, Alhaji Bello Magaji Isah made the disclosure during a visit to Controller of Prison in Kebbi State, Mallam Sani Adamu Potiskum in Kebbi.

The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu had last year announced to the delight of Nigerians that his commission was making arrangements with the Nigerian Prisons Service to allow some classes of prisoners to vote in the next general elections scheduled for 2019. During his visit to Prisons Office in Kebbi, the state INEC boss Alhaji Isah said there is a need for effective synergy among critical stakeholders in creating public awareness on inmates voting rights towards ensuring participations of eligible Nigerians to exercise their franchise. Isah said: “I am here to lets you know that the INEC is working on the possibility of creating polling units in Nigerian prisons to allow some categories of inmates to vote. “The essence is to capture as many eligible voters to participate in the election since voters’ education and sensitisation are very essential in this regard. “We also consider the feasibility of inmates in custody and the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and People in Diaspora to Vote in elections.” The state INEC boss also disclosed that the commission is collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure all eligible citizens in Kebbi state exercised their Voting Rights. In his remarks, the Controller of Prisons Kebbi State, Mallam Potiskum said the Controller-General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed’s had instructed all controllers of Prison throughout the federation to provide maximum supports to INEC an other agencies of government on their statutory mandates. Potiskum said: “We have been instructed by the Controller General, Ja’afaru Ahmed to provide all necessary supports in ensuring that you succeed on your campaign on Inmates’ rights to vote even though they lack rights to be voted. “We are ever ready to assist the commission in conducting secure, free and fair elections and to ensure the rights of inmates in custody are not disenfranchised.”

JAMB announces new dates for 2018 UTME 

The JAMB Registrar  Prof Ishaq Oloyede, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has disclosed that the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, will take place between March 9 and 17.

Oloyede said the examination will be preceded with mock examination, which will take place in the first week of February.

The JAMB Registrar said the examination scheduled to hold between January 22 and 24 was shifted to the new dates due to the ongoing strike by public universities non-teaching staff.

He said, “We are unable to access our CBT centres because most of them are in the universities and non teaching staff are on strike. ”

Oloyede noted that about 10 percent of prospective candidates for this year’s UTME have purchased and registered for the examination, adding that the total number of candidates that have registered was about 283,319.

Football star, Emmanuel Eboue has been found dead by authorities in his sister’s house in North London. This development is coming shortly after Eboue’s divorce troubles and the loss of all his property and wealth to his ex-wife came was made public.

According to Information Nigeria, Eboue is believed to have struggled with long-term depression, did not leave a note behind and he was found hanging in the room on a fan hook, Police said in a statement.
Investigators declined to comment on whether it was suicidal or a perpetrated act but assured the public an investigation is ongoing. Eboue had received tons of offers on legal advice in his bid to overturn a court ruling which was set to leave him homeless in the wake of his bitter divorce.

All 50 will need to show similar responses to the treatment, and then even if they do they’ll need to be continually tested for the next five years to make sure the virus has been completely eradicated. HIV is a virus which attacks the immune system of the human body, making it harder for us to fight off even the mildest illnesses such as colds or coughs. There is currently no cure for HIV, however modern treatments allow those infected with it to go on to live a long and healthy life. AIDS is the final stage of the HIV infection, it occurs when the body can no longer fight life-threatening infections. Those who have been diagnosed with HIV early on will not go on to develop AIDS.
